SEIKO SUN001 Kinetic Watch
Overview
The Seiko Arctura SUN001 (5M65-0AA0) is a 43mm men's kinetic watch with a stainless steel case and a silver analog dial protected by sapphire crystal. It uses a 5M65 caliber quartz movement that cannot be manually wound but can be hacked (the second hand stops when the crown is pulled out). The watch should run for up to 6 months when fully charged and will recharge when moved.
The SUN001 is currently ranked #235 in popularity out of 510 watches in this catalog. Check availability on Amazon.com. This watch is part of a family of two watches that are identical except for their color or strap. The case of the SUN001 measures approximately 43mm wide (not including the crown) by 11mm thick and is water resistant to 100 meters. This should be sufficient for splashes, rain, baths, showers & swimming (shallow diving) but is not recommended for scuba diving. The crown does not screw down which increases the risk that it could be pulled out accidentally while under water. The stainless steel bezel shows 24 hour time and is fixed (cannot be rotated). The gap between the lugs is 22mm and the bracelet band can be adjusted to fit using a link removal tool but may be difficult to replace with another band due to the shape of the lugs.
The SUN001 provides the following features and complications:
- Second hand
- Minute hand
- Hour hand
- GMT hand to show the hour in another timezone
- Date window to show the day of the month. Note that some watches may be damaged if you attempt to change the date between 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM, in which case you should change the time to be outside that range first then reset the time after adjusting the date. Check your watch manual for details.
- Power reserve indicator button which causes one of the hands to move to show the remaining power level
